Eyesi Slit Lamp

EYESI SLIT LAMP

Virtual Reality Simulator for Eye Examinations
The Eyesi® Slit Lamp is a high-end diagnostic training system for optometrists and ophthalmologists. Its virtual reality technology is integrated into the original hardware of the BQ 900 slit lamp model from Haag-Streit Diagnostics and offers all functions of a real slit lamp. Trainees can examine virtual patients with the biomicroscope, fundoscopy lens, or gonioscopy lens*.

Slit Lamp Handling and Recognition of Pathologies
The beginners’ courses of Eyesi Slit Lamp allow trainees to learn slit lamp handling and illumination techniques independently. Advanced courses introduce a wide range of clinical pictures and standard grading systems. This fosters a solid foundation of diagnostic skills, something which is difficult to achieve when depending on the availability of fellow students or patients.

Operated Like a Real Slit Lamp
A slit lamp has many degrees of freedom and possible settings, for example rotation and three-axis position of illumination and observation system, slit width and length, inclination and rotation of the slit beam, and filters. The simulator provides the same controls as the BQ 900 slit lamp so that trainees can manipulate the device just the same way. As they look into the microscope, trainees see exactly what they would expect to see if there was a real patient sitting in front of them. Through this immersive experience, the transition to a real slit lamp is as easy as it can be.

Embedded Curriculum
The Eyesi Slit Lamp simulator comes with a didactically structured curriculum for self-guided learning. The curriculum consists of six tiers which build on each other and focus on different key aspects of slit lamp examinations. Trainees proceed through the curriculum by completing the courses one by one while educators can monitor and control their progress.

Guidance and Information
The software guides trainees through the examination. Depending on the current case, users are told which sign they should look out for next and which slit lamp settings are required. After finding a sign, additional medical information is displayed on the screen and stored in the user’s findings library.

Feedback and Evaluation
The simulator presents trainees with a detailed assessment of their examination and diagnostic performance after each task. Scored parameters include the light exposure and the accuracy of found clinical signs. All scores are available for educators on the simulator or online on VRmNet.

Online Features on VRmNet
The VRmNet online platform allows educators to set up users and monitor their trainees’ progress comfortably. Trainees have access to their current training status, step-by-step videos on simulator handling, and online medical courses.
